Colitis Symptoms : How to Relieve Constipation Naturally

Colitis and constipation are both digestive issues that affect the colon. Colitis is characterized by pain in the abdomen, gas, bloating and constipation. It may be suprising to know that you could be carrying 15-20 pounds of old fecal matter in your intestinal tract.

The definition of constipation varies. The medical community feels that less then 3 bowel movements is when someone would be considered to be constipated. With my patients, I would consider 2 bowel movements a day for women and three a day for men to be normal.

The most common cause of constipation is a diet low in fiber. The bulk and soft texture of fiber helps prevent hard, dry stools that are difficult to pass. Fiber is the part of fruits, vegetables, and grains that the body cannot digest. Fresh fruits and vegetables in their raw form not only contain natural fiber but they also contain water as well.

There are two types of fiber, soluable and insoluable. Insoluble fibers help hydrate and move waste through the intestines and control the pH levels in the intestines. These fibers help prevent constipation and keep you regular. The psyllium in our VitaMucil is backed by research, finding it to be a superior form of soluble fiber that not only helps with constipation but also helps with lowering cholesterol. Our VitaMucil fiber supplement are in vegetarian capsule form and are easy to take, no mixing required. Take 2 capsules, twice daily with a large glass of water.

Water is another key factor in prevention of constipation. Adding lemons into your water can turn a rather boring drink into a health drink. Lemons helps with digestion and also helps your liver function optimally. Another tip would be to sip your water throughout the day instead of gulping it down.

Detoxification is also important (not only for the health of your colon) but all of the internal organs, which is why I created the VitaDetox formula. VitaDetox full body cleanse is a natural detox that includes a liver, bowel, kidney, skin, lung and a heavy metal cleanse. This is basically my total body cleanse all in one formula! Here at VitaTree® Nutritionals™ we recommend a full body detox protocol, for 2 consecutive months, at the change of every season.

Constipation often feels like it’s a completely physical problem because of the way the symptoms present themselves - pain, bloating, straining, cramps, etc. However, constipation may also be caused by your emotions. Your gut and your brain are intrinsically linked and if you are feeling stressed, are worrying about something, or are troubled by anxiety or depression than this will have an impact on your digestive system.

If you have watched the attached video, you will see that I have also included some acupuncture points that can also help with constipation. Massage these points daily for best results or visit a Registered Acupuncturist for more information.
