My Reflections on Dr. Oz's Recommendation of Vitamins

Recently, Dr. Oz put out his recommendation of Vitamins: a daily multivitamin, combination Vitamin D, Magnesium/Calcium as well as Omega 3's. While I have great respect for Dr. Oz, I don't agree with all of his choices and this is why.

Conventional multivitamins are products I don't ever recommend as they almost always come from a synthetic source and are full of chemicals. The trouble with synthetic vitamins is that our cells don't recognize them and they don't contain the co-factors found in whole food that allows them to be absorbed into our bodies. Whole foods contain accessory nutrients which have been studied in great detail. For example, synthetic Vitamin C doesn't contain the extra 400 phytonutrients found in an orange or in whole food products. This is why I use only high ORAC whole fruits and vegetables in my VitaFruits and VitaVeggies. They contain all the necessary antioxidants and are easily absorbed, as our body recognizes the natural plant nutrients and knows what to do with them at the cellular level.

Vitamin D is important, but it's the type of Vitamin D that counts. VitaTree Vitamin D3 comes from a whole source and uses a medium chain triglyceride from coconut oil as the carrier. Not only is it a great natural product and easily absorbed, but the coconut oil acts a bit of a fat burner.

I also am against taking Magnesium and Calcium at the same time. The reason: when taken together, they compete for absorption.
