Anti Aging Secrets

As a naturopathic doctor, I am always looking for ways to make my patients feel and look their absolute best. Over the years, I've learned some secrets that are easy and can be done at home, to keep you looking young by maintaining your collagen levels and keeping your skin healthy and supple.

The first thing to do is to really take an honest look at your stress levels. A lot of our facial expressions, which lead to lines, deep furrows and wrinkles, start from being stressed. Try to be more aware of your facial expressions during times of stress, as it's that constant contraction of the facial muscle that causes the deep lines. Your hormones can affect your collagen levels in your skin. Particularly for women, it's really important to balance our hormones as we age.

Next, is to drink enough water. It's so important to keep your body and your skin hydrated. It's one of the most important things you can do to keep your body hydrated from the inside out. The other thing to protect your cell membranes, especially in your skin cells, is essential fatty acids or high quality Omega-3's. The safest way to get these today is a good quality fish oil supplement. Make sure to look for a high concentration of the essential DHA as well as EPA that helps to maintain the cell structure. You need antioxidants, as we are all exposed to free radicals on a daily basis that can damage the cells in our bodies, leaving them susceptible to cancer, aging, and a variety of diseases. All the super foods, the fruits and vegetables, like the berries, are concentrated with antioxidants to help fight the damage from the free radicals that have accumulated and can cause damage to the skin as well over time.

We also want to make sure we are using chemical-free products on our skin, as the chemicals can actually speed up the aging process. I am always checking and looking up any ingredients in my skin care, I want to make sure they are as natural as possible. One of the best ingredients to use on your skin is natural Coconut Oil.
