Four Foods to Never Eat
Today, I'd like to discuss the four foods I believe you should never eat. They are all rampant in our food chain, but they are processed and can be very detrimental to your health.
1) Artificial sweeteners: Sucralose, aspartame, any of the artificial sweeteners on the market today. They are found in things like diet gum and sodas and should absolutely be avoided. This is because they produce excitotoxins, which can cause our brain and nerve cells to over-fire. This in turn can cause brain and nerve damage. As a naturopathic doctor, I believe these can cause cancer and diabetes. Even though many diabetes patients are told by conventional medicine to replace soda with diet soda, the damage from the artificial sweeteners can be more detrimental to your overall health. There are natural sweeteners that do not cause the damage of the chemical ones, things like Stevia are fine.
2) MSG (monosodium glutamate) also known as glutamate, idolized yeast or yeast extract, hydrolyzed or textured protein or calcium caseinate. MSG has the same effect as the artificial sweeteners, it produces excitotoxin which can cause brain and nerve damage and is very bad for your health. It's found in most processed food, is totally artificial and should absolutely be avoided.
3) Titanium Dioxide: is found in a lot of the synthetic supplements on the market. When I first began researching supplements, I was shocked at how many contained ingredients that were actually bad for our health. It is listed among the five most carcinogenic substances in the world. We should definitely not be ingesting it so please do check all your supplement labels. Check the extra ingredients or the non-medicinal ingredients to see if it's in your supplements.
4) Magnesium Stearate is a flow agent, a chemical that makes the supplements move faster in the production lines. While it cuts down production time and is more cost-effective, it's not something you'd like to necessarily ingest. It can cause a lot of stomach irritation and decreases the absorption of whatever it coats, and surprisingly, is found in most supplements.
It's important to do your research and check out what you are putting into your body. Just because something is called "Natural" or is sold at the health food store, doesn't mean that it doesn't contain harmful ingredients. We consume many synthetics, fillers and products that can actually harm us. Most supplements today contain "extra" or "non-medicinal ingredients", which aren't necessary.
