Liver Function and Liver Toxicity
Your Liver is the key to how well your body manages all the toxicity in your system...it filters your blood at the rate of 1 litre per minute.
The liver is something most of us take for granted. It is, however, the largest organ that helps with toxicity in the body. It filters the blood, at the rate of 1 litre/minute, so basically all toxins go through the liver. Some toxins we choose: like alcohol and cigarette smoke. The liver filters those. Others we have no choice about: the toxins in the air and in the food we eat. The liver must filter those as well. Then, there are the toxins that come from prescription medicine that you may be taking.....the liver must also try to clean those as well.
So you can begin to understand how the liver can quickly get overloaded and without clean filtered blood, all other bodily functions are compromised. Our immune system is affected. And serious illness can result. That's why it's so important to reduce the toxins that go into our system, whenever possible. Quitting smoking is great for your overall health and will reduce the strain on the liver. Reducing the amount of alcohol you drink helps.
Using naturopathic and homeopathic treatments for what ails us would also reduce the strain on the liver. If you're unsure of the effects of what you're taking might be.
