Five Steps to Help IBS without Drugs
As a naturopathic doctor, it is my intention to do things in the most natural ways possible. Natural solutions are the key. When it comes to dealing with IBS symtoms, I have found there are five natural steps to ease the pain, without the use of any drugs. Eliminate Stress: it is important to find a way to reduce your stress on a daily basis.
This can be through a warm bath, exercise, and meditation or deep breathing exercises. These simple things can make a dramatic difference in the health of the GI tract. Avoid negativity, like not watching the news on TV. The more negative thoughts you have, the worse off your symptoms will be.
You have to find what works to reduce your stress and then practice it daily. 2) Detoxification: it is crucial that the toxins in your digestive tract are eliminated, in order for it to work more optimally and work less sluggishly. With IBS, gentle cleansing is the key. The tract is already irritated with the IBS, so by using gentle herbs to cleanse the digestive tract, it allows the gut to heal, without the negative side effect of having to run to the washroom. 3) Diet: important to eliminate foods that could possibly irritate the digestive tract. The usual culprits are dairy and gluten. These are the two groups of foods that tend to cause the most irritation. Try eliminating them for a good month or two and see if that makes a difference. Today, most grocery stores stock many gluten and dairy-free products, so a fairly easy switch that could make a big difference for your symptoms. It may not be forever, however at the beginning, limiting grains really goes a long way at helping the gut to heal. 4) Probiotics: we need to maintain the good friendly flora in our digestive tract as this is what actually helps break down our food. Not all probiotics are created equally. Most of the ones on the market come from cow or soil organisms. When looking for probiotics strains, those cultured as human strains are best, being the most acceptable to the human digestive tract. 5) Heal the leakgy gut. Some specialized protein powders help to heal the leaky gut, by ensuring the tight junctions are repaired. It can be very helpful to not only improve digestion, but to also ensure the body has adequate protein for tissue repair. Take care of your good health, and do it naturally.

HEALTHY RECIPES
Peanut Butter & Cookies

Ingredients:
• 1 cup Creamy Peanut Butter or Almond Butter
• ½ cup Coconut Sugar ½ cup Almond Flour (add for consistency when mixing, see directions below)
• 1 Large Egg 2 capsules @vitatree Veggies Multi (opened)
• 2 capsules @vitatree Fruits Multi (opened)
Directions:
• Preheat oven to 350°F In medium bowl combine peanut butter, coconut sugar, Vitatree Fruits Multi, Vitatree Veggies Multi, and egg.
• Add almond flour 1 tbsp. at a time, mixing in between, until the dough is thick and easy to roll into balls (not too sticky)
• Roll dough into 18 x 1 inch balls and place on a cookie sheet.
• Using a fork flatten the cookies making a cross pattern
Bake
• for 12-15 minutes or until the edges of the cookies are browning
• Let cool and enjoy!
