Time to boost
avoid feeling exhausted all of the time
One of the most frequent questions I get, as a naturopathic doctor, is how to increase your energy and avoid feeling exhausted all of the time. Most people don’t realize that your energy levels are directly connected to how healthy you are: the healthier you are, the more energy you will have. And, of course, the opposite is true. There are some specific steps you can take to help get your energy back.
4 STEPS TO GET YOUR ENERGY BACK
The following are 4 that can help you get your energy back.
As we’ve discussed throughout our talks here, we live in a pretty toxic world. Some of these toxins are in our electropolluted environments, the air and in the food we eat, others we choose, such as smoking and alcohol consumption. Either way, it’s important to detoxify our internal organs as well as our skin. You can do that through herbs, such as drinking parsley tea, or through supplementation. After dumping toxins, your energy will bounce back, toxins weigh your body down, once released, you feel lighter and more energetic.
Many adults are not getting enough sleep. In fact, a recent survey found that one-quarter of Canadians are sleep deprived & chronically tired. Without restful sleep, your energy will be lower. Some people have problems falling asleep, others wake up in the middle of the night. Some suggestions: Set everyday routine,to sleep at the same time & wake up at the same time. Your body needs routine. Sleep in a cool, dark room; our skin has light receptors that are sensitive to any light during the night. Herbal medicines; help with sleep, are non-addictive & they do not cause hangover effects next morning. Some of my favourites are passionflower, valerian, scullcap and lemon balm. Healthy diet; with plenty of fresh fruit and vegetables will help you stay healthy and more energetic.
Getting enough exercise is important, as it helps detoxify your body through perspiration and regulates your hormones.
Morning sunshine exposure helps to set up your entire brain and hormonal system to be able to make melatonin at night when you are sleeping. So get out each morning and watch the sunrise, it will do a world of good for your entire body, and especially your energy.
