Our bodies need Omega-3’s, especially the DHA (decosahexanoic acid) which is required by the brain and nervous system on a daily basis. As a naturopathic doctor, I urge caution while recommending that my patients get their Omega-3’s from fresh fish, as our oceans have been polluted with heavy metals, mercury and PCB’s.

Making sure your Fish Oil Supplements are free of Toxins

Our bodies need Omega-3’s, especially the DHA (decosahexanoic acid) which is required by the brain, eyes and nervous system on a daily basis. As a naturopathic doctor, I urge caution while recommending that my patients get their Omega-3’s from fresh fish, as our oceans have been polluted with heavy metals, mercury and PCB’s. Fish is the best source for Omega-3’s and protein, but the risk outweighs the benefits today; instead I recommend a good Fish Oil Supplement. Not all Fish Oil supplements, whether in capsule or liquid form, are alike. DHA is more deficient in humans than the other omega 3s like EPA and this is whysupplementing with more DHA than EPA is important for overall health. Fish Oil and its Omega-3’s, DHA and EPA, helps with cognitive health and brain function, it helps in the development of the brain, eyes and nerves in children up to 12 years of age, reduces triglycerides, eases the autoimmune joint inflammation in adults and maintains healthy mood balance, reducing depression. The key is to have the best form of fish oil, guaranteed not to contain Mercury (which is toxic), is molecular distilled and has a high IFOS (International Friends of the Sea) rating.
