Insomnia has different symptoms for different people. Some people struggle every night with not being able to fall asleep. Others fall asleep quite easily, but end up waking up in the middle of the night and not being able to go back to sleep. Often, we wake up in the middle of the night because the body is trying to release all the toxins being held in the internal organs and that can keep us awake.

Natural Insomnia Tips

Insomnia has different symptoms for different people. Some people struggle every night with not being able to fall asleep. Others fall asleep quite easily, but end up waking up in the middle of the night and not being able to go back to sleep. Often, we wake up in the middle of the night because the body is trying to release all the toxins being held in the internal organs and that can keep us awake. That is why I often address detoxification as a first step when dealing with my patients with insomnia. Once the body is cleansed of toxins in the liver, kidneys, lungs and other internal organs, people don’t awake in the middle of the night or early morning. By thoroughly cleansing the kidneys, the number of times you get up to urinate is significantly decreased. It also helps to avoid large glasses of fluids an hour to an hour and a half before bed, so there is no additional strain on the kidneys during the night. Other patients have the worries and busy thoughts before bed, which prevents them from falling asleep or may wake them up during the night. Stress reduction is very important to ensure a good, restful sleep. Any negative thoughts or messages, whether that is watching the news or thinking of the many things you need to accomplish the next day, can hamper sleep. A good tool I suggest is to keep a journal or a pad of paper by your bed. This way, before you go to sleep, you can write down your thoughts of the day or anything you wish to do the next day. By putting these thoughts on paper, you remove them from running through your mind as you try to sleep. It can help to meditate and practice some relaxation techniques before bedtime. Now if all these suggestions fail and you are still having insomnia, know that there are natural remedies that can help you. Nature has many herbs that can help reduce that sensitivity in your nervous system and help you to support a healthy sleep/wake cycle quite naturally and with no side effects.
