To prevent any more damage to the joints, be sure to eat an anti-inflammatory diet and get regular exercise, including strength training and plenty of walking. This helps to keep the joints healthy. Anti-Inflammatory Diet: Avoid inflammatory foods such as PUFA’s in canola oil, margarine, vegetable oils, GMO sunflower and safflower oils and non-grass fed dairy and beef. These cause the production of arachidonic acid, an inflammatory fatty acid. Eat healthy fats from nuts and seeds. Include more raw fresh fruits and vegetables in the diet. There are a variety of prescription pain medications available, but these have side effects. All medicines produce side-effects, but arthritis medicines are usually powerful, and some can produce unpleasant and damaging effects.[ii] These can range from constipation, liver damage, to increased risk of cardiovascular problems.
