In order to restore balance in the digestive tract, my first recommendation is to clean up your microbiome. Making sure you have enough friendly flora or probiotics is important. Not all probiotics are created alike, so the type to look for contains human microflora. Most of the ones on the market come from cow or soil organisms, but I have found over the years and working my patients that human microflora strains are a superior strain of live microorganisms for the human digestive tract.

Natural Solutions for Acid Reflux

A lot of my patients over the years have suffered from acid reflux which is also known as gastro esophageal reflux disease, or GERD. Many people are surprised to know that one of the causes of GERD are the conventional medications that many may be taking. Pharmaceuticals often have unpleasant side effects that affect the integrity of the stomach and its functions.More often than not in my naturopathic practice, I have seen the cause and effect relationship with taking certain drugs and the onset of acid reflux. Over the counter pain killers, NSAIDS, can often cause acid reflux. Bone drugs that help with osteoporosis also are notorious to cause the heartburn, as are some sleeping pills. Anti-depressants and many other drugs have acid reflux as a side effect. On top of that, your regular doctor gives you another prescription for a pill to combat GERD. All these medications cause more acid build up and therefore more acid reflux. It seems you can get on this vicious circle of taking pills, getting heartburn, then taking more pills to settle that down. For every symptom, there seems to be a drug that then causes a new symptom, necessitating a new drug .and the cycle continues. In order to restore balance in the digestive tract, my first recommendation is to take a good quality probiotic. In order to restore balance in the digestive tract, it is important to clean up your microbiome. Next on my list is coral calcium. It’s in a powder form, making it very easy to digest in a glass of water. It’s in an alkaline form, which helps to calm down the acid reflux. I suggest sipping it in the evening after dinner, which will help alkalize the stomach and settle down the acid reflux. The key to cure acid reflux is to avoid the things that cause it and to make your system more alkaline. Magnesium can also help with acid reflux as it helps to relax the muscles in the tail end of the esophagus. I prefer to take magnesium in the morning to maximize it’s absorption and to also help with the metabolism of Vitamin D throughout the day and also for the macronutrient metabolism during the day when we are eating. For other symptoms, try natural products before rushing to a prescription drug which has acid reflux as a side effect.
