As a naturopathic doctor, I truly believe that good health is more about preventative measures and avoiding illness. This is my advice to my male patients.

Men today face particular health challenges. They want to have more energy and stamina, want to be able to handle stress and worry about getting cardiovascular disease. As a naturopathic doctor, I truly believe that good health is more about preventative measures and avoiding illness. This is my advice to my male patients. It all hinges on their diets and how much they move. I recommend at the very least 30 minutes four times per week, but it all depends on your individual body. Some men find that 60 minutes five or six times a week helps keep the stress at bay and helps with their health. When it comes to diet, I always suggest an increase in raw fruits and vegetables and decrease in PUFA’s. As well, men are concerned with their prostate health and libido issues. For my male patients, I suggest antioxidants in the diet, especially from berries and other low sugar fruits to ensure the blood sugar doesn’t spike and lead to both leptin and insulin resistance. Then I recommend ensuring a healthy microbiome by eating fermented foods such as sauerkraut and kimchi, and by takinga high quality human microflora probiotic containing lactobacillus acidophilus and bifidobacterium bifidum. Not only will this help the digestive system stay healthy, but it will boost your immune system. By taking a high quality probiotics supplement daily, this will help in preventing the seasonal cold and flu that causes men to miss days of work, a stress in itself. As well, DHA from seafood and fish oil supplements will help prevent cardiovascular disease and enhance cognitive skills at the same time. Finally, some important herbal medicines for men include saw palmetto and maca, which will help keep your prostate healthy and your energy level and libido high. By following these simple steps, all men can stay healthy and disease free. As I always say, your health is in your hands.
