If it’s unhealthy, the tissue expands and you get a lot of bloating and gas. I always tell my patients to detoxify so they will keep their digestive tract healthy. We have a lot of heavy metals that can get into the tract. For instance, if you have silver fillings in your teeth or eat a lot of fish that could be contaminated with mercury and other metals, you need to detoxify on a regular basis so your digestive tract stays healthy. We must also ensure that we are getting enough of the good bacteria in the form of probiotics into our system. Taking probiotics ensures that the digestive tract can break down the food we eat and get the proper nutrients to our cells. This is what can happen on a physical level. There is also a mental and emotional component to keeping the digestive tract healthy and functioning well. If you tend to be a person who is easily stressed and swallow your feelings rather than speak your truth, you can create ailments and diseases like Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS), Crohn’s symptoms, colitis, etc. So it’s important to keep ourselves physically and mentally aware of how sensitive the digestive tract can be and to keep it toxin-free and maintaining a healthy microbiome.
