Tips for a Healthy Uterus

As a naturopathic doctor, I have treated many women in maintaining a healthy uterus. There are several steps you can take to keep your uterus healthy. 1) Detoxification: It’s very important to get rid of any toxins in the system. Women often have an imbalance of estrogen and progesterone, as well as the bad hormone xenoestrogens, which are caused by plastics, herbicides and pesticides in our environment. Besides trying to avoid chemicals in our diets, it’s important to cleanse out your internal organs by doing a detox. 2) Probiotics: The right probiotics will help to decrease the bad xenoestrogens in the system, thereby decreasing the bad estrogen and promoting the good. 3) Clean Diet: An abundance of fresh, raw vegetables and fruits and a decrease of carbohydrates and sugars will help decrease inflammation in the body. 4) Fish Oil: Fish is a great source of Omega-3’s, which will help with inflammation and cellular health. Unfortunately, most of the large fresh fatty fish today has been contaminated with heavy metals, particularly mercury. It’s why I advise my patients to limit eating large fatty fish and to take fish oil supplements. 5) Fibre: It’s important to have enough fibre in our diets to help release built up debris on the intestinal walls. This keeps your system flowing and clear of toxins. Regular bowel movements are important, taking a whole food fibre supplement can help this process. Psyllium seed husks are helpful, which is the most beneficial part of the psyllium plant. 6) Castor Oil Packs: These can help increase circulation and decrease inflammation and pain. Simply soak some wool flannel with castor oil, warming it up with hot water bottle and laying it on the affected area. Combining all these natural remedies should help ease the fibroids and the painful effects they can have. As always, there is a natural remedy for your painful problems.
