Our digestive tract is filled with both the good and bad bacteria. To ensure that it stays healthy, you want to have more of the good ones, or friendly flora in the digestive tract. What are probiotics? People often ask me “what are probiotics?” Probiotics are the good bacteria or flora. You want to make sure that you have a lot of the good guys in your digestive tract to ward off and crowd out any of the bad guys. Too much bad bacteria in your digestive tract can lead to ailments such as IBS, Crohns, colitis, constipation and runny stools. Probiotics also help keep your immune system up. As you can imagine, there are many kinds of probiotics. Probiotics can also come from fermented foods such as sauerkraut and kimchi. Taken daily, they will keep your digestive tract healthy, disease free and your immune system in good working order. We all occasionally may have bloating and gas, but a healthy digestive tract is important to ward off diseases and ailments. Probiotics can help you achieve that.
