Why You Should Never Eat Flaxseed Oil
Many people take Flaxseed Oil as they consider it a good source of Omega-3's. I don't agree with this and don't believe that Flaxseed Oil is a healthy supplement. Recent research backs me on this, It's been found that men who take flaxseed oil have a higher incidence of prostate cancer than those who do't. It makes me wonder if it is linked to one type of cancer, what other types might be affected?
The first problem I've found is that the alpha-linolenic acid (ALA) in Flaxseed Oil doesn't convert the Omega-3's into the necessary EPA and DHA that is needed daily. In women, it's a bit better, but still only 21% conversion into EPA and 9% conversion into DHA. In men, the conversion is only 8% in EPA and only 0% & 4% conversion into DHA. A much better solution is Fish Oil, which meets the requirements at a much higher level. My VitaFish Oil is Mercury and contaminant-free and is 10% EPA and 40% DHA. These critical Omega-3s help maintain normal brain function, are anti-inflammatory, reduces the risk of coronary heart disease and prevents eye disorders. VitaFish Oil are easy to take orange flavoured capsules, it's a much better and more natural supplement.
As a naturopathic doctor, I've always believed in going the most natural route possible with treatments for my patients. When I couldn't find a whole-food supplement line that was free of fillers, I created VitaTree. I formulate all of our supplements and will only make those that are sure to be beneficial to my patients and my clients' health.
Flaxseed Oil has too many potential health side effects and not enough benefits for me to consider it a healthy supplement. From increased incidence of prostate cancer, to increase risk of bleeding and bleeding times, it's not something I would ever recommend. If you want to get your important Omega-3's, then check out my Vita Fish Oil, which has more benefits and none of the side effects.
Please leave your comments below. Let me know if you've taken or are currently taking Flaxseed Oil or other supplements for Omega-3's.
